Do we have bad and good universities, business schools in Spain? If you stop to look at the ranking world’s most influential, clearly would draw that conclusion. In the renowned Shanghai Jiao Tong University Ranking, which measures the top 500 universities worldwide, only one Spanish center (University of Barcelona) in the top 200, and 11 as a whole. Something similar to what occurs in another of the most prestigious rankings, that of The Times, which ranks 200 institutions. As can be seen, this is a very poor presence in the international knowledge institutions, bearing in mind that Spain is one of the first economies in the world.

Things change when they are evaluated business schools. In one of the ranking most influential in these centers, which produces an annual Financial Times , three Spanish institutions are among the 20 best in the world. One of them (IE Business School), among the top 10.

It is true that a private model, expensive and elite students (the school of business) versus a predominantly public, with limited budgets and overcrowded in many areas (the university) mark in large measure those differences.
